So... My dad gave me 2 tickets to watch colossal show ARIAH in Monas, June 29th 2013. He can't make it so se asked me to go. I asked my lovely cousin annuy to watch it together and she couldn't be happier. She loves teather show more than you know... and we got the VIP seats, how lucky! (well, I guess maybe oil company sponsored tis show. I guess that's just niceyou know, funding and supporting indonesian arts activities and take it to the next level)
They said this show is a request of Jakarta's #1 man, Jokowi. Together with Jakarta's anniversary and to gather all Jakartans, regardless their social status etc. Huge outdoor party!
Jay Subiakto magically turned Monas into an outdoor, spectacular asymmetric stage and shot it with contemporer visuals by Taba Sanchabachtiar. Lovely Chitra Subiyakto styled all the performers with colorful Betawi costumes. Really cool. Old names never get old, they know the best!
Asked some random guy to take photo of us as it's very crowded.. and you can see the result sucks more than my shots... hahahahaha.... We have to walk a bit far from where the driver drops us to avoid Jakarta's Saturday night traffic. You bet.
The story is about Ariah, Betawinese girl who is liked by 2 powerful and rich people in the Area, and they want to marry her. But Ariah's heart belong to his teacher. Dammit I've lost the booklet so I forgot names. But sad ending... and it's so good it felt too short. I mean the duration. But it's filled with nice musical performance, pretty costumes, funny dialogues, shortly it's entertaining / educating.
I really hope oil companies sponsored more this kind of stuff instead of building more malls. So people know that lots of us makes living from art. Art is in the heart, we work by heart, we eat from art.
There were 1 more performance from Jay Subiakto called "Matah Ati" and we got the VVIP tickets. It's more exclusive in an indoor tether but sadly no cameras allowed during performance so I don't have much pics. Here in Ariah they let us takes any pic without flash.
Nice closing from all performers. Hope to see your works again in the future, so my kids would see it.
